SOUTH AUSTRALIA’S MOST POPULAR ATTRACTIONS
Adelaide Central Market is the State’s most visited attraction, drawing 8.5 million visitors in the 2004- 05 financial year, a recent survey has found. A list of SA’s most popular attractions is revealed in the South Australian Tourism Commission’s Visitation to Major Attractions and Events in South
Australia Research Report. Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith says the State’s most visited attractions reveal a diversity of South Australia’s key tourism experiences.
“South Australia is famous for its wonderful local produce and dining experiences, so it’s no surprise that the Adelaide Central Market is the State’s most visited attraction,” Minister Lomax-Smith says.
The top 5 attractions last year were:
- Adelaide Central Market
- State Library of South Australia
- Adelaide Botanic Garden
- South Australian Museum
- Art Gallery of South Australia
Regional SA boasts a range of world-class cultural and nature tourism attractions. Most popular regional attractions throughout the year included:
- Flinders Ranges National Park (136,900 visitors) & Wadlata Outback Centre (98,400)
- Innes National Park on the Yorke Peninsula (139,200 visitors)
- Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram (134,800 visitors)
- Coorong National Park (122,300 visitors)
- Banrock Station in the Riverland (100,000 visitors)

UK SABAN SET TO TAKE OFF
Many Thanks to Ms Maggie Farrell, Director of Trade & Investment for the State of South Australia for co-hosting a SABAN luncheonfor our UK based Ambassadors at the Australia Centre in London in December. Thanks also to London based Ambassador Mr Dennis Muirhead for his long term and ongoing support of SABAN in the United Kingdom.
Plans are underway to launch a new look SABAN in London early April 2006. Not only will new UK based Ambassadors be announced at this inaugural annual event, but Ambassadors (and or their organisations) and SABAN program and synergy partners with connections in the UK market will have the opportunity to showcase at an exclusive business networking event.

RUGBY SEVENS EVENT TO BE HELD IN SA APRIL
2007
South Australia has won the right to host
the globally prestigious International Rugby
Board Sevens World Series for the
next
five years.
Adelaide will become one of eight cities
across the world where the annual
international 16-team series is played, with
Adelaide’s first two-day rugby festival to
be held
7-8 April 2007.
Premier Rann says it is a major sporting
victory for the State and is expected to
generate up to $6 million in economic
benefit, attracting visitors, players and
officials from overseas and interstate.
“This is the latest in a string of sporting
wins for our State, which includes the AFC
Women’s Asian Cup (soccer) this month and
the Socceroos versus Lebanon qualifier match
in August.
“And it comes hot on the heels of our
commitment to inject $16 million to
refurbish our world famous sporting venue
Adelaide Oval, where the event will be held.
“Securing this event is an important step in
our goal to develop a full-year calendar of
sporting, arts and cultural events to
attract more visitors to our State.
LAUNCH OF WOMADelaide
It’s that time of year again! Since it first hit Botanic Park in 1992 the annual WOMADelaide event has grown in popularity and brings over $5 million and 10,000 interstate visitors into the State. At the launch this week Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts, John Hill said he's looking forward to
hearing Jamaican reggae artist Jimmy Cliff.
WOMADelaide is on from March 9 to 11. But, it’s a busy time of year as March also sees the Clipsal 500,and the Fringe.
